The Raftsmans Journal, Clearfield, PA has many mentions of Bottorf's establishment and his rheumatism problems, 1883-1885. According to the Directory of PA Photographers, 1839-1900, his name was Jacob &he was born c.1835. I do notknow the dates he was a photographer in Clearfield, but he did leave his shop for New England in the fall of 1885.
However in Heritage Quest's online census we have PA 1870 census Roll 1327 p. 271 Clearfield Co Clearfield Boro line 5 July 9th Bottorf John K 32 Photographer 1000 PA

#48: Standing couple. (Mary Massey?) 1867-1876; 1879-1881 Photographer: J[oseph] Fenton 729 South St., Philadelphia back is the same as #25 (are these the same people as #49?)

The Directory of PA Photographers, 1839-1900 has Fenton at this address, for those years.
