- Mary A. Massey was born, in England, March 30 (20?), 1840 according to
her death certificate, with parents being John Massey and Catharine
Cooney. The 1900 PA census confirms her March 1840 birth date. Have not
found English birth certificate, do not know place of birth.
[There was a Mary Ann Massey born in Bolton, Eng. in March 1840 (2nd
quarter registration) and a Mary Ann Massey born in Birmingham, Eng (3rd
quarter).]
- Mary Massey emigrated to US. (according to PA census, 1900) in 1860.
Have not found documentation for this. (Check New York, Philadelphia, etc.
immigration materials sometime)
- Photo Album (cartes de visites) given to Miss Mary A. Massey, Oct. 30,
1867. Presented by W. and S. A. Simmons. (who are they?) The photographs
are mainly from the Philadelphia area, but 2 are from Barnsley, Eng. in
West Riding, Yorkshire (is this the Massey family?) Only one portrait
(other than cards of priests) is identified, a Mary A. Rice, done by a
Germantown, PA photographer. See photograph album on Susan Gehl's web

Clancey and Elizabeth Ann McCann. (Rose Ann probably died before 1880)

MD, (Feb.24, 1942) gives birth information

but was removed from the lists in 1876.

Bradford), notice in the Clearfield Republican June 2, 1875 (granted, June
16th notice) & applies for a restaurant licence (in Clearfield) notice in

is living in those areas in the mid 1870s.
- newspaper articles on the death of Mary Massey's husband, Daniel
Doran, who was killed in a railroad accident, appear in the The Raftsman's
Journal Clearfield, PA Dec 6, 1876 p. 3, 2nd column, top and the
Clearfield Republican Dec. 6, 1876 -- neither newspaper
mentions wife or
children
(Daniel is supposedly buried somewhere in St. Lawrence Cemetery - no
records found for this)

found in Jim and Delia Allen's trunk, which is identified on back as Peter
Allen's mother. b) one that is in my possession and was with Sarah Doran's

Marriage of David Daniel Doran and Sarah Jane Pickard, Camden
Aug. 26,
1896
**David Doran was a Roman Catholic; Sarah Pickard was an
Anglican/Episcopalian who much later converted to Catholicism.
Sarah's father objected to the marriage; so one night they took
the train
to Philadelphia and were married by John Evans, Justice of the Peace in
Camden, NJ; both listed 2736 Garnet St., Philadelphia, PA as their
residence (don't know if that is Garnet St. in South or North
Phila.(boardinghouse?). On the form, David Doran's profession is given as
Shoe Dealer; his parents were both born in England; and he is 21. Sarah
says she is 20 - (she was actually 17 on her last birthday). It was a
first marriage for both. Sarah's parents (Wm. Pickard & Margaret Moore)
were born in England. It looks like the witnesses were: W. C. Miller of
Camden, NJ. and David Massy of Camden, NJ. Later in life, Sarah said she
had been married in Philadelphia on May 26.
According to oral tradition, David and Sarah eloped to his spinster aunts.
** A Catherine Massey gave Sarah Pickard Doran a prayer book when the
Dorans were in DuBois, c.1907-1917.
** Mary Massey Doran Allen's sister, Anna (as a very old woman), attended
the funeral of Louise Doran, who died in Pittsburgh, PA. Oct. 27, 1928.
