Mildred Helen (Senn) White (Millie), Born December 6, 1925 (Buffalo, NY)- Departed July 25, 1993 at age 67 (Clearwater, FL). Cause of death was heart failure after a 9-month battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was married on July 7, 1956 in Buffalo, NY to William Hamilton White, Sr. (Bill), Born July 7, 1922 (Buffalo, NY)- Departed November 11, 2007 (Atlanta, GA). Millie and Bill had two children born in Buffalo, NY. She was also survived by her sisters, Esther and Marie, and brothers, Ernie and Max, at the time of her death.
Millie was the youngest of eight children of Emilie and William (Wilhelm) Senn. She always spoke very fondly of her sisters and said she was closest to Esther. Her oldest brother, William, did the honor of giving her away on her wedding day. After graduating from high school, she moved out of her parents' home and spent some time living with both of her older, married sisters, Louise (Summit, NJ) and Marie (Tonawanda, NY). Her first job was with LL Berger in downtown Buffalo at the "gift counter" as described by Millie. She also did a bit of local retail modeling. (See clipping of her from the Buffalo News.) She then got a job with the New York Railroad- specifics of that position are not known, but it's possible she was in the accounts office. As a young, single woman, she enjoyed summer weekends at Sherkston Beach, Ontario, Canada with her friends where they would perform acrobatics, and she loved shopping and fashion. One of the acrobatic poses captured at Sherkston won a first-place award in a Newspaper Snapshot Contest and was later used as the cover art for a post card in Europe! She was inducted into Beta Sigma Phi on May 5, 1962. Beta Sigma Phi is a non-academic sorority with the motto of Life, Learning and Friendship and is dedicated to social and cultural pursuits. After marrying Bill White in 1956 (age 30), she retired from work to be a homemaker, loving mother and also became an avid golfer and bridge player with Bill. They were happily married for 37 years. She was also a talented seamstress, artist and floral designer.
