After moving to Houtzdale with his father Thomas, and brother Cornelius in the mid 1870's, there is little information on John's early years. The following was taken from census records:
1880 Census - Film #125517-page 31 - Clearfield County, Houtzdale, PA. Dwelling 118 - Thomas Allen -age 45. Boot and shoemaker. Born in Ireland. Thomas' father & mother born in Ireland. Living with son John T. Age 14. Born N.Y. Apprentice to shoemaker Allen. In 1888 John Married Jane Boylan of Cresson Pennsylvania, in Lilly Station.
I do not have details on when John left Houtzdale, or what brought him to the Lilly, Cresson area.
John and Jane had 7 children. The only one I have details on was Victor Leo Allen born February 22, 1896 in Lilly Pennsylvania. I have more information on Victor I will be adding at a later time The other children were James Allen, Cornelius Allen (presumably named after Johns brother Cornelius), Joseph Allen, Charles Allen, and a daughter Alice Allen.
